Southampton supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2003 courtesy of a hard-fought 2-0 win over giant-killers Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
The South Coast outfit got past Fulham, Watford, and West Brom to reach the last eight of the world’s oldest club competition, thus providing some respite for our resident Saints supporters given their side’s woeful Premier League form. And Mark Hughes’ men kept the cup run going as goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cedric Soares saw off the League One high-flyers, who of course got past Manchester City in the last round, thus earning Southampton a meeting with Premier League champions Chelsea in the semi-finals.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Southampton fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are daring to dream about a first FA Cup final since 2003, and their first FA Cup success since 1976.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Saints supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that several Serie A clubs are eyeing a move for striker Manolo Gabbiadini this summer.
The Italy international only made the move to St Mary’s back in January of last year, and while he made a fine start to life in English football, things have somewhat tailed off since then, with the forward netting just four times in the Premier League this season.
And reports suggest that Bologna, Lazio, Sampdoria, and Torino are all vying for Gabbiadini’s signature this summer, and were the 26-year-old to indeed leave Southampton come the end of the season, here are TWO other stars who could follow him out the exit door…
