‘Board as tight-fisted as always’ – More than a few Southampton fans on Twitter aren’t happy

Southampton have made their first sell of the transfer window after the departure of attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic to Ajax.

According to Sky Sports, the 29-year-old has joined the Eredivisie giants on a four-year contract in a deal believed to be in the region of £10m.

£15m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Tadic was arguably Southampton’s most influential attacker, and losing him will come as a blow after a season where the Saints lacked efficiency in the final third of the pitch. Mohamed Elyounoussi could be brought in as a replacement for the now departed Tadic, with Sky Sports also reporting that Southampton and Basel have agreed a £16m fee for the 23-year-old.

Elyounoussi impressed for Basel in the club’s recently concluded campaign scoring 14 goals in 45 appearances, performing excellently well in the Champions League in the process.

Despite the potential addition of Elyounoussi, Southampton fans will be disappointed to lose yet another one of their star assets in Tadic. The Serbia international joins the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana – to name a few – in leaving St. Mary’s for a new challenge elsewhere.
