Charlie Austin must start for Southampton against Crystal Palace

Southampton are still searching for their first win in the Premier League having picked up only one point from their opening three games.

The Saints certainly won’t be flattered with how their season has panned out so far as they find themselves in a spot of bother. Interestingly, Mark Hughes did bring in a number of players during the summer transfer window, but there’re still a number of problems that need addressing.

Hughes’ side will travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace later on today in what will be another tough encounter for the Saints. The Eagles have shown moments of promise this season and have a rather strong squad, so it will be difficult for Southampton to take anything away from the English capital.

Interestingly, one man who failed to earn a starting place in the side last time out against Leicester City was Charlie Austin, who is currently valued at £9 million (by Transfermarkt).

Sadly, the Englishman is still yet to get off the mark in the Premier League, which is why Mark Hughes turned to Shane Long last time out against the Foxes. Although, Austin can always guarantee you a goal at the most desperate of times and has that natural goalscoring instinct, so he should be inserted straight back into the lineup.

Crystal Palace were vulnerable at times against Watford and became undone by the sheer power of Troy Deeney and Andre Gray at times, which is why Austin could have a massive effect against the Eagles.
