Contact made as Southampton ace reportedly eyes summer exit

Southampton supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side fail to break down fellow Premier League strugglers Stoke City on Saturday, thus only mustering a 0-0 draw at St Mary’s.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s men went into their clash with the Potters off the back of drawing 1-1 with Burnley in their previous league outing, in turn securing a 12th draw of the campaign and fourth in six matches. And the Saints were again unable to turn a draw into a victory at the weekend as well as they couldn’t find a way past Paul Lambert’s Stoke, thus leaving the South Coast outfit just a point and a place above the Premier League’s bottom three with nine games of the season remaining.

Subsequently, there have been many frustrated Saints supporters in the Tavern in recent times, and they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from Corriere dello Sport, which suggests that striker Manolo Gabbiadini has made contact with Bologna over a possible move in the summer.

The 26-year-old made the move to St Mary’s back in January 2017 and started brilliantly with six goals in his first four games for the club, although has since added just four strikes in 35 appearances for the South Coast side.

And with just ten Premier League starts for Pellegrino’s side so far this season, just one of which since the turn of the year, the Italy international appears to be searching for a route out of Southampton as reports suggest that contact has been made with Serie A outfit Bologna over a potential move in the summer.

And having reportedly expressed an interest during the January window but ultimately to no avail, a summer exit could well be in the offing for the Saints forward.

Landlord’s verdict: Manolo Gabbiadini made a fast start to life at Southampton with six goals in his opening four matches, but things have since tailed off considerably for the Italy international.

Just four goals in 35 appearances have since followed for the 26-year-old, and with more substitute cameos than starts in the Premier League this season, it looks as though the striker is slowly falling down Mauricio Pellegrino’s pecking order.

And reports suggest that the Italian is eyeing up a summer exit as contact has reportedly been made with Bologna over a possible deal, what with the Serie A club having reportedly expressed an interest during the January transfer window.

And were his bit-part role to continue between now and the end of the season, it’s a move which may well take place come the summer.
