Southampton have really found themselves in some trouble this season and they’re not yet clear of the relegation battle.
Despite all the good efforts from the team and manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, the relegation battle is relentless and any team could be sucked back in at any time.
Southampton have shown that they’re more than capable of winning matches this season but they still look a shadow of their former selves, the team once striving for a place in Europe rather than fighting off the Championship.
They do have now a quality manager that has threatened to make a real difference at St Mary’s but anything like that will take time, plus he needs some new signings to help him out.
The Saints didn’t sign anyone in January, only let players go which has the left the right-back position in particular vulnerable.
With Yan Valery the only option, a brilliant summer signing to add even more quality to that role is Frankfurt’s Danny Da Costa.
Da Costa, (who is valued at £7.2 million on Transfermarkt) has enjoyed a brilliant season with Bundesliga side Frankfurt so far this campaign and should that continue, many other teams could explore an interest in the former German U21 star.
Operating as more of a wing-back on the right-hand side, Da Costa has supplied three goals of his own, whilst laying on another three for his team-mates as well.
The 25-year-old is an extremely handy player and his pace is a nightmare for the opposition to try and contend with, as he’s constantly darting up and down the line.
Southampton will be hopeful of Premier League survival and captures like Danny Da Costa will ensure no such relegation concerns are again apparent next season.
