Southampton are a team who could go one of two ways this season, either rising to the top-half stars they once were or becoming a team threatened by relegation yet again.
Having strengthened massively over the summer, fans would hope it’s not the latter that happens to Southampton this season, given the added quality they have at the moment.
Mark Hughes is a manager who has a wealth of experience and that will be vital in playing a part in where Southampton finish this season.
It seems in the last few seasons, what the club stood for has been lost and especially the pledge to bring through youngsters. Although not one of their own, giving a regular chance to Manchester City midfielder Brahim Diaz is an opportunity they should take.
Diaz, (who is valued at £4.5 million on Transfermarkt) one of City’s brightest prospects, is a player with great ability now and being nurtured with regular game-time could only make him better.
The 19-year-old played five times in the Premier League last season, enough to earn him a medal for winning the league, quite the achievement at his age.
Is a real breakthrough likely in the City team though? Probably not.
With the array of quality especially in attack that the Citizens have, it will be exceptionally hard for Brahim Diaz ever to make a substantial breakthrough unless he goes out to a team like Southampton, where he has a much higher chance of being played, showing what he can do in the Premier League.
The Saints are lacking a real creative midfielder who can play across the front line and despite his age, that should prohibit his chance of making an impression to the rest of the league.
