Southampton, two seasons on the bounce now, have found themselves in a spot of bother that has been testing to escape from. Indeed, that’s clearly far too often for a club who were only embarking on one of the most exciting footballing projects in recent English history a few years ago and it’s probably fair to say that the fanbase has grown disillusioned as a result.
Clearly, relegation severely threatened the Saints but thanks to the efforts of new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, they were saved. Wow, just imagine what would have happened had Mark Hughes stayed in charge. What a thoroughly miserable man he was.
Still, all of Ralph’s and the teams hard-work could be undone very easily though, if they don’t take dramatic action in the transfer market. Right now, it could be described as their most important window in years and it’s a period of months that could decide their long-term fate.
In order to bring in a better quality of player, Southampton should seriously consider raiding the dastardly Liverpool, as the latter have done to them so often in the past. Everyone knows that a number of players have gone to-and-from St. Mary’s to Anfield and visa-versa, and whilst that continues to work out, Southampton should try and nab Harry Wilson away from the Reds.
Wilson, (who is valued at £7.2 million on Transfermarkt) has enjoyed an incredibly productive loan-spell with Derby County this season, so much so, he has helped lead them to the play-off final. With a fantastic return of 18 goals and six assists in 48 appearances, Wilson has become a recognised name and is now dubbed as a player with brilliant potential.
Southampton (as per Sky Sports) are one of three clubs who have adopted an interest in the Welshman but a move down to the South Coast could be preferable to other options, given Southampton’s illustrious history with developing young players.
Harry Wilson most definitely fits the mould of players Ralph Hasenhuttl is after this summer. A young, talented player that could grow into some player at St Marys Stadium. Much, much better than Adam Lallana, right?
