The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to have remained in the Premier League but know that this summer is a vital period of time for the club to show their ambitions for next season.
If saviour Mark Hughes arrived any later, it really could have been curtains for Southampton’s Premier League stay. However now that he has shown what he can do, the Welshman must be given an adequate transfer budget to strengthen his side should he remain at the club as a reward for his good work. Our punters would like to see the Saints be ambitious this summer and target Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko, who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt.
The 28-year-old, despite some saying his move to Tottenham has been a failure, has still managed to feature in 47 appearances this season, scoring 2 goals and assisting 5 goals for his team-mates. One of the many attributes that Sissoko has is his versatility, the ability to play on the right-hand side or through the middle as the central man in midfield.
With a move to a side like Southampton, Moussa Sissoko would have the platform to be one of the teams best players, which could allow his best form to come back. The Frenchman may also find his position taken this summer with Spurs planning a lot of business, and some that could see his place in the team made redundant.
Southampton know that they survived simply because there were three worse teams than themselves, something that can’t be relied on next season. A move for Moussa Sissoko would not only be eye-catching but most importantly a signal of intent from the owners that they’re ready to spend to take the club forward.
