Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern could be finally offered the security of the open managerial position being filled this week, with Claude Puel’s arrival imminent.
Should the Frenchman be handed the reigns, L’Equipe (via French Football News) reports that Hatem Ben Arfa could follow suit, with both player and manager leaving overachieving OGC Nice.
This would serve as a hammer blow to Les Aiglons, whose recent success has been largely down the the pair.
Puel has reportedly approached the former Newcastle United playmaker in recent days about joining him at St. Mary’s, having helped turned his career around.
After leaving England under acrimonious circumstances at both The Toon Army and Hull City, the 29-year old hit top form when moving back to Ligue 1.
So much so, that he fought his way back into the Les Blues reckoning and even saw strong links regarding a move to Barcelona.
Representatives of the player are said to be meeting the Saints’ hierarchy in the coming days to discuss where his future would lie at the club.
Does Ben Arfa really seem like a typical Southampton signing?
