Southampton fans here in the Tavern are hoping to see one of their star players return, as injuries continue to halt any progress being made by the Saints.
Mauricio Pellegrino was relieved of his managerial duties at St Mary’s this past week, as Mark Hughes has now been appointed as his successor. Although, the Argentine hasn’t been the only problem for the Saints so far this season, as injuries have also played a huge part in the worrying position that the club currently finds itself in.
Charlie Austin was the Saints’ top scorer last season in all competitions, but has been struggling with a hamstring injury over the past few months. And, fitness expert Ben Dinnery has revealed some negative news for Southampton fans on Twitter.
“He’s not going to be involved this weekend, but we feel we’ve got a chance of integrating him for short periods next week. If we can do that, we can speed up his progress. With a bit of luck, if we can get him ready for West Ham that’s a massive positive.” #SaintsFC pic.twitter.com/0cOGKp8hmX

This is a huge blow for Southampton as they could really do with his goalscoring qualities, as Guido Carrillo still waits for his first goal since making the move. Indeed, the Englishman managed to bag himself six goals before sustaining an injury, a figure that still makes him the club’s top scorer even after three months out. Therefore, the Saints will be gutted to not have him back for tomorrow’s game against Wigan Athletic, as Southampton’s only chance of securing silverware.
There’s no doubt that Southampton’s future relies heavily on Charlie Austin returning to the side, with his goalscoring talents being priceless to the club. And, they may be staring at a shock FA Cup exit in tomorrow’s fixture at the DW Stadium, having seen giant killers Wigan knock out Manchester City in the last round.
