According to a recent report from Football Insider, Southampton have made a move for winger Jack Clarke. The 18-year-old currently plays his football at Championship table-toppers Leeds United having come up through the ranks at Elland Road, with his meteoric rise in the last few months seemingly attracting interest from the Premier League.

And that’s because reports suggest that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints have launched a £5 million bid for the attacking sensation, with Clarke himself only need looking at Ademola Lookman and what he did under the guidance of Hasenhuttl to know that the South Coast is the place to be.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, it wasn’t actually at Southampton in which 21-year-old Lookman produced the goods under Hasenhuttl, what with the duo working together to great effect at Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig last season to thus help the young Englishman get his career going again after a tough few years at Everton.

In fact, the 21-year-old attacker produced arguably his best spell of football since joining the Merseysiders during his time away from Goodison Park, netting five goals and laying on four assists in just 11 appearances for Leipzig to help Hasenhuttl’s side qualify for the Europa League.

And with Lookman again having struggled to produce the goods for the Toffees this term, failing to net in 13 Premier League appearances for Marco Silva’s side, it’s pretty clear that Hasenhuttl knew exactly how to get the best out of the youngster, much like he is doing now with Nathan Redmond at Southampton.

And with Leeds’ Clarke a very similar player to the aforementioned duo, he only need look at Lookman’s success under Hasenhuttl, and indeed Redmond’s growing influence at St Mary’s, to know that Southampton, and working with the Austrian, is the place to be.

Remarkably, it was only back in October last year in which the 18-year-old made his senior debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, which came in their 1-1 draw with Brentford at Elland Road, but he has since then proven to be an absolute revelation with two goals and two assists in his succeeding 12 Championship appearances.

And with appearances in each of their last ten league matches, including a start in their most recent clash against Stoke City last weekend, the Englishman has become a key part of Bielsa’s promotion-chasing squad at the Yorkshire giants - Bielsa may have been criticised by some for opting against deepening his squad since taking over at Leeds, but that has at least allowed Clarke to make a name for himself.

And with undoubted potential down the flanks, the 18-year-old looks set for an extremely bright future in the game, and where better to learn his trade than at Southampton, who themselves are renowned for developing young talent, under the guidance of Hasenhuttl, who has got the very best out of fellow attackers Lookman and Redmond.

As such, with the Saints having reportedly launched a move for the winger, Clarke only need look at Lookman to know that Hasenhuttl is the manager to play for, and thus Southampton is the place to be.
