Southampton fans here in the Tavern are praying that their side can secure all three points later today, as they remain on course for relegation to the Championship.
Sadly, the Saints look to be heading for relegation to the Championship after a less than convincing season in the Premier League, with Mark Hughes now facing an uphill task to keep Southampton’s hopes alive. But, many of our local residents did receive some welcome news prior to kick-off at St Mary’s, as according to BBC Sport’s pre-match team news, Mario Lemina should be fit to face Chelsea.
Mario Lemina has been the shining light in a sinking ship so far this season as Southampton’s only hope of survival, but he could only watch from the stands last weekend after missing the game with an illness. However, it looks as if the former Juventus midfielder could be set to return against the defending Premier League champions, as he should be fit in time for today’s match.
Indeed, this could be the kind of boost that gives Southampton the confidence to take all three points, as suffering another defeat will push them even closer towards relegation.
Mario Lemina’s possible return will be a huge boost for Southampton in what will be a crucial fixture, with very little time left for them to climb out of the dreaded relegation zone. And, having seen how well he’s performed throughout the current campaign, having him back in the starting lineup will fill supporters with hope.
