We can safely say that the Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern would be fully behind a deal for this former star who could return to the South Coast this summer.
The Mirror recently linked Jack Wilshere to Southampton after the 26-year-old announced he would be leaving Arsenal after 17 years at the club.
However, if Saints are in the market for a creative midfield player, they should look no further than their former captain Adam Lallana. The 30-year-old has excelled at times for Liverpool but recent injuries have held him back. The Merseyside club have made a number of high profile midfield signings including Naby Keita and Fabinho, which will also push the Englishman down the pecking order at Anfield.
Lallana played in League 1, the Championship and the Premier League for Southampton and became captain in 2012 before signing for Liverpool for £25M in the summer of 2014.
His transfer didn’t seem to affect his relationship with the Saints faithful though and a midfield trio of Mario Lemina, Oriol Romeu and Adam Lallana would have the perfect balance between power and creativity.
Lallana is valued at £22M by Transfermarkt and would surely make a better signing than Wilshere.
