Manchester United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have received some positive news about one of their main summer transfer targets.
The latest speculation comes from the Daily Star‘s Nick Lustig who suggests that the reigning Premier League champions are confident in landing Southampton’s Luke Shaw this summer, despite strong interest from Chelsea.
David Moyes is eager to sign the 18-year-old as he searches for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, whose contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.
The French defender is expected to depart for his native country in the summer and that will leave the left back berth free in United’s side.
Moyes had targeted Everton’s Leighton Baines as a solution, but the England international decided to reject interest from Manchester to pen an extension at the Etihad Stadium.
Southampton remained determined that they will not sell any of their star players in the summer, but an offer of around £22.5 milion could be enough to persuade Saints owner Katharina Liebherr to let Shaw leave.
United are likely to face competition from Jose Mourinho who also wants to sign Shaw, a boyhood Chelsea fan, as a younger alternative for Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge.
