Saints fans here in the Tavern start their working week in disappointment after silly little errors continue to let the side down.
Southampton have endured an average start to their season as they sit just inside the top half of the table. Having started the season under the new management of the promising Mauricio Pellegrino, they’d be setting their sites high hopeful of pushing for a European place. However, having only taken 5 of a possible 15 points in their last 5, they’ve begun to go off the boil as defensive mistakes and the lack of the ability to start games strongly has been the downfall of this Saints side.
Looking to improve on a fine victory against a tough West Brom side, they faced a difficult trip to the Amex to come up against Brighton, a side who recently tore apart West Ham in their own backyard. So with the Seagulls in fine form, Southampton were going to need to be at their best if they were to come away with any sort of result.
Having made mistakes and blunders in previous times, it was always going to be in the back of their mind. Turning into more of a who’s gonna make the mistake opposed to is there gonna be a mistake, as fans grow increasingly impatient with their side. Things just didn’t improve, Saints led after 6 minutes through Steven Davis as they got off to the best possible start, before the inform Glenn Murray scored as the pressure told in what ended as a 1-1 draw.
Indeed, it was inevitable for a side who’ve leaked goals this season.
One man in particular who has been heavily criticized in recent times has been England international Fraser Forster, as fans believe he just hasn’t been good enough in goal after becoming liable to mistakes. Having been tipped for a poor performance once again against the newly promoted Brighton, it’s beginning to look as if patience is wearing thin with the shot-stopper.
With Alex McCarthy waiting in the wings, eager for a chance, could fans perhaps fancy a switch? If you want to win games, you have to be at your best and, for that, you’re gonna need your strongest XI.
So Southampton fans, do you wanna see a switch in keepers?
