Southampton have displayed moments of promise so far this season but they still find themselves hunting for an elusive three points.
The Saints were edged out by Everton at Goodison Park last time out in what was a good showing by Mark Hughes’ men. But, with a number of evident improvements still needing to be made, it’s about time Hughes started looking to his substitutes’ bench for inspiration from the off.
So, the Saints will welcome Leicester City to St Mary’s next up in what will be a rather close encounter. The Foxes will be full of confidence after securing their first win of the campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers, so Southampton will have to be at their best in front of home support.
Interestingly, one man who is yet to start for the Saints is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was one of Southampton’s standout performers last season.
Of course, it was always going to be tough for Hojbjerg to replace Mario Lemina in the starting lineup, but Hughes has opted to go with Oriol Romeu instead of the Danish midfielder, which comes as some surprise.
Indeed, the 23-year-old always seemed to be the source of all things brilliant for the Saints last season, with his creativity helping provide lots of chances for the strikers. So, with a tough Leicester City side up next at St Mary’s, Hughes should look to Hojbjerg to unlock the Foxes’ resolute defence.
