Southampton are again struggling this season and investment in January will be vital for their survival hopes.
They spent well in the summer, (or at least they thought) but now Southampton are again declining in form and face another troubling season.
As well as failing to stop conceding goals, Southampton are also having troubles scoring goals and apart from Danny Ings, barely anyone has stepped up.
That could soon be amended though, as The Daily Mirror are reporting that Southampton are one of many Premier League outfits planning a move for former Man City forward Edin Dzeko.
If they managed to secure one of the most surprising transfers in recent times, Southampton would immediately propel themselves into top ten chasers with the goals Dzeko would bring.
So what could the potential consequences be of bringing in a man who has scored five in nine this season…
The Italian forward is almost a vivid figure in the imagination of Southampton fans’ minds because apart from scoring the goal to keep the club in the Premier League last season, he has barely featured since.
With seven appearances this season without registering a goal or assist, it would finally be time for Gabbiadini to leave Southampton in a move that would benefit him personally and the club.
Mark Hughes remains in a job
The former Man City boss did amazingly well to rescue Southampton last season but after getting money to spend in the summer, he hasn’t delivered much for the board to be happy about.
With the support of a proven goal-scorer though, Mark Hughes could keep his job on the basis of goals finally flying in.
