Quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Micky Quinn is claiming that Liverpool are looking at Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk as their next signing in another dose of deja vu for our Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern.
The Reds have already snatched many of Saints best players over the last few seasons; Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne are just a few to have made the switch and now it looks as though the centre-half could be the next in line.
Van Dijk joined the Saints from Celtic and instantly went about showing just how good he was with a number of powerful displays at the back.
For many, he has become one of the best centre-halves in the league and for a Liverpool defence that has been struggling, he could prove ideal.
Indeed, Quinn, a former Reds player, believes the deal could be on. He said: “I believe they’re interested in Van Dijk, when the transfer window opens up. They love a Southampton player, they’ll probably go back again.”
The classy Dutchman has been a mainstay this season for Southampton totalling thirteen appearances in all competitions for the club.
Still, he penned a lengthy contract on the south coast over the course of the summer, making any deal even more complicated.
