The Southampton fans have been caught up in discussion all day due to the boring nature of their Premier League campaign thus far. Indeed, while our punters clad in red and white want Mauricio Pellegrino to succeed, it’s not been great thus far.
In fact, it’s been an average start to the season for the Saints as they sit just outside the top half of the table and the fans around our bar become more and more wary of the struggle they’ve gotten themselves into.
Many reports have linked both Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand with January exits; ESPN has recently linked the left back with a move to Manchester City, while Van Dijk has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Landlord here at the Tavern decided to throw up a debate for the fans to indulge themselves into in order to get the real opinions of the people that mean the most to the club. When the results filtered in, it didn’t fail to deliver a close contest as they could only be split by the 6%. When asked who they’d rather see leave in January it was the big Dutchman who was pushed towards the exit, he received the majority 53% vote, which saw Ryan Bertrand become the favoured man to stay.
After the absence of Van Dijk for the majority of last season and the start of this season, it didn’t throw up many surprises as the Saints fans were just getting used to life without their sulking skipper.
