Revealed: 56% of Southampton fans would rather see cup hero make way for linked star

Saints fans here in the Tavern have gathered opinions and combined their thoughts to solve the puzzle of the unwanted striker.

It’s been a slow start to the season for the St Mary’s faithful as they struggle to find the form of yesteryear. Having been sighted in the bottom half of the table many fans believe that Pellegrino is struggling to find the correct formula at the club as he finds his way back into the English game.

The past couple of weeks have been hectic for reporters mentioning one man’s name in particular… ‘Paco Alcacer’,  As reports have been continuously linking the striker with a move to St Mary’s. Having been low on cover for star man Manolo Gabbiadini this has the makings of a quality piece of business for the side as Shane Long only just returns from injury while Charlie Austin has been out of favour.

The Landlord here at the pub decided to throw up a debate in order to gather all the minor details and opinions that the Saints fans felt towards the topic in regards to solving which striker should head for the exits should Alcacer become a new signing. However, we must say the response was fairly comfortable as the not so lucky Irishman Shane Long received a 56% vote that made him the favoured player to be leaving the club as Charlie Austin made a lucky escape with 46%.

So as the Saints go marching in, it looks like it will be without their little pot of gold of old. In what was a very unexpected turn of events, the forever favored Shane Long now is finding himself possibly reaping the effects of time out with an injury as the fans push him towards the exits. His experience and pace is something we thought would favour the forward but the goal scoring expertise of Austin last season seems to have fired him to safety.

There is no real crisis in the outcome of this result for the club as the departure of an established striker could lead to the signing of an even bigger one as it clears the way for the Spanish star to arrive from giants Barcelona. A man that St Mary’s would love to be chanting for from the stands.
