Southampton are beginning to show signs of improving under Mark Hughes and that is exciting for fans.
The former Saints player Mark Hughes arrived at St Marys with the sole aim of keeping Southampton in the Premier League and when achieving that goal, he earned his right to stay as manager for the club.
He was given the tools to go out and strengthen his team in the summer and those players look to be good decisions so far.
Southampton have improved some fragilities in defence and have become more potent in attack, specifically with the addition of Danny Ings running the line.
However, January should be another opportunity to improve their team and next to Jannik Vestergaard, Southampton need to find a top partner for him in the heart of defence – someone like Marcus Rojo.
Marcus Rojo, who is valued at £16.2 million on Transfermarkt, has been at Manchester United ever since 2014 but now a move to Southampton where regular game-time could be more of a guarantee. At 28, a chance at consistent football in the Premier League would surely be something of interest for the Argentinian defender.
Southampton seem to have found a bargain in new signing Jannik Vestergaard and with a strong, psychical partner like Marcus Rojo, that tight-knit defence Saints once had could be found again. With a strong defence, the Saints can guarantee themselves to have more points, seeing as the less they concede, the better chance they have at winning.
St Marys hasn’t been a happy place in recent months and Southampton need to improve by delving into the transfer market once again, giving them the greatest chance at success this season.
