Scott McKenna would be a shrewd summer signing for Southampton - Premier League

Southampton have massively improved in recent games and should therefore fancy their chances of staying in the Premier League.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has done a terrific job improving the Saints as a collective and he will hope his good management will continue as Southampton recently extended their league unbeaten run.

Players have really started to show their best selves and realistically, the Saints should be hoping for much more than the relegation battle they have become used to over the last 12 months.

To do that, they need to sign some better players and to improve on their defensive woes, Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna would be a worthwhile signing.

McKenna, (who is valued at £1.1 million on Transfermarkt) is a defender that would better Southampton’s squad as a whole.

The highly-rated Scottish defender was on the linked with the prospect of joining Stoke in the January transfer window but since that move failed to materialise, a team like Southampton could instead swoop in.

At the age of 22, McKenna will hope to gain a move which recognises how good he has been for Aberdeen, as presented by the eight clean-sheets he has helped accumulate whilst on the pitch this season.

The imposing central-defender has asserted himself in the Scottish national team with eight caps to his name and he is going from strength to strength, which could suggest he is ready for a move to the Premier League.

Southampton are a side that could give him the opportunity to gradually work his way into the fold and hence he could show what he is capable of.

Goals have been conceded far too frequently so recruiting a young player like Scott McKenna could help towards stopping that.
