Southampton supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team book their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-1 victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s men edged past both Fulham and Watford to earn their place in the last 16 of the world’s oldest club competition, which was providing some respite for our resident Saints fans given their side’s struggles in the Premier League. And their fine cup run continued on Sunday as goals from Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic secured their spot in the quarter-finals, with Salomon Rondon’s effort not enough to prevent the South Coast outfit from a meeting with giant-killers Wigan Athletic next month.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Southampton fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are hoping that Sunday’s win can kickstart their league campaign and thus their ascent up the division, starting at Burnley this weekend.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Saints supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports that former defender Jose Fonte is set to make the move to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang in the coming days.
The 34-year-old left St Mary’s for West Ham in January 2017 after seven years at Southampton, in which time helping the club from the third tier of English football to becoming an established top tier side.
Yet things haven’t quite gone to plan for the Portugal international in his 13 months at the London Stadium, and it appears that his time there is at an end as reports suggest that he is on his way to China and top-flight side Dalian Yifang.
And several Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to express their views on the news…
Ego got the best of him.

He should have ended his career with us , he thought he was gonna get a big move and ended up at the spanners

Should have stayed with Saints and become a legend, in stead of a has-been

Completely agree, to think that he was pushing for United and has now ended up in this situation is pure karma

Feel somewhat disappointed that his career has gone the way it has but seems he’s brought it upon himself.

He’s got the end of career big money he wanted! No bad feelings towards him tbh, I get the feeling the board wanted to cash in on him while they could as much as he wanted to leave

He owes Southampton nothing, but he could have handled the situation at the end better. Best of luck to him

Mercenary, purely about the money for that guy.
