After losing manager Ronald Koeman to Everton, the Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern needed some good news.
Now, with reports from the Scottish Sun (via the Daily Star), it appears as if there will be some on the South Coast, as the club close in on a Scottish defensive prodigy.
Though wholesale changes are fast becoming a sewing summer motif at St Mary’s, the club have a proud tradition of developing burgeoning young talent into bonafide Premier League stars.
With that in mind, they are reportedly set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Kieran Freeman from Dundee United in the coming days.
The talented teen is most naturally a right-back and his current charges are believed to prefer selling the 16-year old to Saints as they value the club’s academy higher than that of the Red Devils’.
New United chief Jose Mourinho has a relatively poor record in bringing through young talent and the path to the club’s first-team could prove to be a difficult one.
Good news for Saints fans, though who would you like to see as your new manager?
