Southampton boss refusing to be caught up in Liverpool’s title whirlwind

As quoted by The Daily Echo, Southampton manager Claude Puel has revealed that he will not make any specific changes to his side as his team get ready to host Liverpool at the weekend.

Our resident Saints fans certainly hope that approach works with the Reds looking like serious players in the title race and scoring goals for fun at the moment.

The Anfield side come into the game one point clear at the top of the Premier League table and beat Watford 6-1 last time out before the international break but the Frenchman Puel is confident his usual tactics will do the job against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“It’s important for our team just to play our game. Of course, we play against a very good team with great players. They play spectacular football, but we have qualities also”, said the Frenchman.

”Liverpool are first because of the chances they create, but we also create opportunities. We can see a good game and an open game and I hope for the supporters a result. We have to stick to our football.”

The Saints are currently tenth in the Premier League with 13 points after a slow start to the season was recovered from nicely by Puel’s men.

The likes of Nathan Redmond have impressed up front this season despite being played in an unfamiliar position up front and our resident Saints fans are confident they can get a result this weekend.

So far, Puel has largely deployed a rotation policy as his side deal with the Europa League, something that has proved reasonably controversial amongst our south coast locals.

One fan said: “Liverpool are looking good but their defence can be got at and with Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin up top we might be able to cause them real problems.”
