Southampton are interested in signing Werder Bremen striker Milot Rashica in the summer transfer window, that is according to a report from German news outlet Wesser Kurier.
They are likely to face competition for the 23-year-old Kosovan international’s signature however.
The report suggests that Southampton are keen on signing the ex-Vitesse forward in the summer as they look to strengthen their squad for the 2020/21 season.
However, it also states that some big clubs from across Europe are also interested in taking Rashica with Liverpool, Roma and RB Leipzig all thought to be tracking him.
Added to that, a hefty amount of money may be required to convince Werder Bremen to sell the talented winger. Indeed, according to Wesser Kurier the Bundesliga outfit are likely to demand a record fee for the 23-year-old, with their current record sale being Diego’s move to Juventus in 2009 for £24.3 million (Transfermarkt).
When you consider Rashica’s stats for the current season, he could well be an astute signing by Ralph Hasenhuttl if he can pull it off.
Indeed the 25-time Kosovo international has been in outstanding form this term, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 18 Bundesliga appearances. Added to that, he has also netted three times in just three DFB-Pokal matches too (Transfermarkt).
Scoring goals hasn’t been Southampton’s strength this season, they have netted just 32 in the Premier League and Danny Ings is responsible for almost half of those with 15 to his name (Transfermarkt).
Apart from Ings, the Saints’ other forward players have struggled for goals this term and between them Nathan Redmond, Che Adams, Moussa Djenepo, Sofiane Boufal, Shane Long and Michael Obafemi have scored just seven – the same amount as Rashica has managed by himself in the German top flight (Transfermarkt).
Signing Rashica would add more of a threat to the Southampton forward line and it would also ease the burden carried by Ings, who at the moment they are almost solely relying on to score goals.
