Southampton: Dejan Lovren still more unpopular than Charlie Austin despite Twitter outburst - Southampton

With Charlie Austin seemingly burning bridges with his former club Southampton after launching a tirade against the club’s fanbase, an interesting discussion was mooted online. Indeed, having bore witness to a high volume of player turnover in recent seasons, Saints on Twitter were debating exactly who they disliked most after leaving St. Mary’s.

Despite Austin’s outburst, there was one clear winner. As you can imagine, given the manner of his exit, Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren was the name on most people’s lists during the discussion despite spending just a year on the south coast between 2013 and 2014.

While speaking to Sky Sports (via the Liverpool Echo in 2018), the Croatian admitted he was likely to be the main target of abuse from the Saints fans even just after Virgil van Dijk’s move a month before, largely due to the fact he reportedly (per the Daily Echo via the Express) was prepared to go on strike to force his move to Anfield through just under half a decade ago.

With that in mind, here’s a look at what Saints fans were saying.
