Saints fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting news of who their new boss, Claude Puel, is looking to make his first signing as the new man in charge on the South Coast, and it is looking like it could be an ambitious one.
Reports from French magazine, L’Equipe (via Metro Rumour Mill), are claiming that Saints are now in a battle with Spanish champions, Barcelona and Premier League rivals, Tottenham, to secure the signature of Lille midfielder, Sofiane Boufal.
The 22-year-old, who has made 43 appearances for Lille, scoring 29 goals, since graduating from their academy in 2015, has attracted interest from all around Europe and it would be quite the coup to bring him to St Mary’s.
The attacking midfielder, however, may be tempted to join the South Coast club as the line from France concerning the new boss is one of a promising manager, who knows how to get a team playing attractive, yet effective, football. Traits which may just attract Boufal.
Saints fans, we want to hear from you! Could Puel really pull this off? Would Boufal be a good addition to the side? Let us know below…
