Southampton edging closer to Wanyama replacement, agent confirms interest

Saints fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been their usual selves over the last month or so, with all the turmoil going on at the club you think they would have been a miserable bunch, but they’re used to it I guess.

Finally though some good news on the transfer front! After losing Victor Wanyama the club are in the market for a central midfielder or two.

Southampton were reported to be interested in Ogenyi Onazi, with the likes of Swansea, West Ham, Sunderland and Everton also keen on the player.

Now, the 23-year-old’s agent has confirmed that there are several English clubs interested in his client, according to reports from Turkey (via Read Southampton).

The Lazio central midfielder has turned heads over the last few years with his impressive displays in Serie A, after making 22 appearances last season.

The agent of the Nigerian international stated Besiktas were one of the clubs after his client, as well as confirming that there has been English interest.

The holding midfielder has scored four goals in 76 appearances for Lazio since 2012, and also has international experience after playing in all four of Nigeria’s 2014 World Cup matches.

The Italian side are thought to value the player at £7 million, with Onazi contracted to the club until 2018.

What do you think Saints fans? Is Onazi worth a punt at £7 million? Let us know in the comments below…
