News from far afield has reached the bar at the Football Transfer Tavern this evening that yet another rebuild at Southampton is underway, as Claude Puel is lining up his first signing as the new boss at St. Mary’s.
According to reports in Romania, the Saints have shown an interest in bringing Steaua Bucurest’s, Nicolae Stanciu to the Premier League.
The attacking midfielder would reportedly cost the South Coast side €6m, a bargain considering the mammoth amount recently received for Sadio Mane.
The 22-year-old scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for his club last season, good enough form to earn him a call up to the Romanian side for the Euros in France this summer.
The five-foot-seven attacker has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League, which would be a crucial addition to Puel’s new side as he prepares for the club’s first outing in the Group Stages of the Europa League.
Saints fans, we want to hear from you! Is Stanciu just what your club needs or, with the money bought in, should you be aiming for bigger names? Let us know in the comments below…
