Southampton eyeing move for €45m rated defender

We’ve had a bit of a scare today here in the Football Transfer Tavern, we thought at one point that our latest batch of TT Ale was well above the usual percentage, but it turned out it was fine, the reports that Southampton were chasing a €45m rated player were actually real.

According to Portuguese newspaper, A Bola, Claude Puel is considering a move for Sporting Lisbon defender, Ruben Semedo.

The 22-year-old, who reportedly has a release clause of €45m in his contract however the Saints are considering a deal of around €15m.

Should he make the switch to St. Mary’s, the central defender will be playing alongside his compatriots and fellow Sporting academy graduates, Cedric Soares and Jose Fonte, who are returning to the South Coast as champions of Europe.

The Portuguese U21 international made 35 first team appearances for the club last season, including one in the Europa League, which Southampton will be taking part in the Group Stages of for the first time in their history in the coming campaign.
