Southampton supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time in 15 years courtesy of a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
The South Coast outfit got past Fulham, Watford, and West Brom to reach the last eight of the world’s oldest club cup competition, which they have won just once in their history back in 1976. Yet Mark Hughes’ men returned to the last four for the first time since 2003 as goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cedric Soares secured victory over Paul Cook’s Wigan, who were unable to back up their previous round heroics against Manchester City at the DW Stadium on Sunday.
Subsequently, there have been many buoyant Saints fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are daring to dream about what their team could go on to achieve in the competition this term, although they will have to negotiate Premier League champions Chelsea in the next round.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Southampton supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking them with a move for Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen.
The Wales international made the move to the bet365 Stadium back in 2016 and has since gone on to make 70 appearances for the Potters, in which time he has scored ten goals and laid on 11 assists.
And reports suggest that former Stoke boss Hughes, in charge of the Staffordshire-based club from 2013 to 2018, is eyeing a reunion with the midfielder at St Mary’s, in news which has stimulated quite a response from Southampton fans on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that they cannot agree on whether their club should indeed sign the £16.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) this summer…
He’s a good player but I think we need to concentrate on overhauling our attacking midfield unit – all of them are far too inconsistent for my liking. The central midfielders are pretty decent, by comparison.

No. We have enough quality midfielders as it is.

Decent player. Hard worker, good attitude. I’d welcome him. Gets goals. Experienced. Good brain. What’s not to like…….?

5 years ago then yes but not now

Do we need another midfielder?

Absolutely, massively underrated. Not that we are lacking in that position however…

Quality player. Would improve saints team.

Excellent player. Great attitude and could be Davis’ long term replacement. Thought he was the best player on the pitch at home to Stoke this year. Especially in the first half.
