Southampton fans are discussing Shane Long after the club tweeted that it was his 200th club appearance after the club played West Ham United on the weekend.
Long arrived from Hull in 2014 for £13.41 million and has scored 35 goals and provided 25 assists, via Transfermarkt. Indeed, the striker has never been a consistent starter for the South Coast side, with the likes of Danny Ings, Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane largely all proving first-choice over him during his time in Hampshire.
Still, the Irishman did manage to create Premier League history during his Southampton career when he scored the opening goal against Watford at Vicarage Road. Indeed, the goal he scored on the 24th April 2019 was the fastest ever scored in the league at 7.69 seconds via the Premier League. Of course, he also scored THAT goal away at Anfield in 2017 to send the Saints through to the EFL Cup final.
Even at the age of 33, Long still has terrifying pace and causes issues for defenders, as he proved against Aston Villa recently so does look to remain a threat. So, clearly, he’s had an impact on Saints’ recent history and here’s a look at how fans reacted to the post about him.
Is it time Southampton moved on from Shane Long?
A true servant of the club who always gives 100%, great seeing him alongside Ings

That record will never ever be beaten in my opinion, I also think no one will beat Manes Hat-trick either, both incredible!
