Southampton: Fans discuss starting XI vs Man City

Southampton faced a daunting challenge on Tuesday night when they travelled to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, just days after being thrashed 9-0 by Leicester City in the Premier League.
Another drubbing was forecasted by many, with Paul Merson writing in his Sky Sports column that the Saints would be praying for the match to be rained off, and when City defender Nicolas Otamendi opened the scoring inside the first 20 minutes, they looked to have another long night ahead of them.
Sergio Aguero doubled the hosts’ advantage just seven minutes before half-time, before adding to his tally 10 minutes after the restart. That was to be it for the much-changed Cityzens, though. Foot firmly off the gas, Pep Guardiola’s side allowed the visitors a consolation goal on the 75th minute, when defender Jack Stephens nodded home from close-range.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men return to Greater Manchester this Saturday, this time in the Premier League, where the challenge they face could be much greater than what went on Tuesday night. Guardiola is likely to field his strongest possible starting XI and there will be little chance of any lapses in concentration from the reigning English champions.
After Hasenhuttl named his starting XI in midweek, many Southampton fans took to Twitter to express their opinions on the Austrian’s choice of personnel; here’s what some had to say..
Mid table championship team. All well and good saying it was improved tonight but City have some big guns coming back this weekend. I’d take a 4-0 defeat if offered 🤦♂️

Last January I’m pretty sure Ralph said our squad was too big. Let so many people go with very little investment I’d much rather be in the position of having to many players than to little.

I’d have liked to seen Adams to start the game really as he’s lacking confidence so sitting on the bench doesn’t really help.

Amazed more youngsters haven’t been given a chance. Issue is we have no depth and no quality, not a great combination!

The same 3 in midfield is depressing.JWP must have some dirt on RH to keep his place in every game.

I love RH but I just don’t get his team choices.
