Southampton: Fans honour Maya Yoshida as former hero is announced as a Sampdoria player

Southampton fans have wished Maya Yoshida good luck in his next chapter in his footballing career after the Japanese international was announced as a Sampdoria player.
The Serie A side revealed the 31-year-old centre-back in the blue and white of Sampdoria for the first time on their official Twitter account, signalling Yoshida’s departure from Southampton after the defender became a staple in the Saints first-team after joining from VVV-Venlo in 2012 when the south coast side were promoted back into the Premier League.
Although Yoshida has only joined the Genoise club on a six-month loan deal as reported by The Southern Daily Echo, a few supporters on social media were sad to see the centre-back depart for the rest of the season despite the veteran defender playing just 11 times this term as stats from Transfermarkt show.
Can Southampton finish in the top half of the table?
Yes

No

Yoshida wasn’t the only Southampton defender to leave the club on deadline day. Cedric Soares also made the move from St. Mary’s to join Arsenal (per BBC Sport) on loan for the remainder of the season.
Here’s what Southampton fans had to say on Twitter about Yoshida’s move to Sampdoria…
Good luck maya, take good care him Sampdoria!
