Southampton: Fans hope that the club won’t sell Oriol Romeu in January

Southampton have been approached by La Liga outfit Celta Vigo about the possibility of signing midfielder Oriol Romeu this month, that is according to journalist Alex Crook.
However, he also reports that the Saints have told the Spanish club that they have no intention of selling the ex-Chelsea man this month as he remains a key member of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.
Romeu hasn’t been a regular for Southampton this season, starting just 12 of their 23 matches in the Premier League so far (Transfermarkt). He is likely to be frustrated at his lack of game time at St Mary’s, but it looks as though he may have to wait until the summer before being allowed to move on.
After seeing that there was firm interest in the 28-year-old from Celta Vigo, many Saints fans were adamant that they shouldn’t allow him to leave. They believe that it would be silly to allow him to leave this month as it would leave them short of cover in midfield.
Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
Be a mistake if we let him go. Only needs 1 injury in centre of the park and we will be screwed as wont have the cover.

Keep him to the summer

I don’t think we should sell Romeu until the summer. A little short in his position. Unless of course we have a replacement already lined up in the window. #SaintsFC

Selling him would be utterly ridiculous. How many premier league games amongst those in the squad should either peh or jwp get injured/suspended?

Always liked him, leaves everything on the pitch. Hope he stays.
