Southampton supporters have been pretty thrilled in recent times after seeing their side record a second straight Premier League victory at the weekend.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men went into their encounter with out-of-form Everton off the back of narrowly edging Leicester City in their previous league clash, and thus seeking back-to-back wins for the second time since the Austrian took over in December. And they managed to do just that as a James Ward-Prowse strike alongside a Lucas Digne own goal inspired the hosts to a 2-1 success at St Mary’s, in turn moving them up to 15th place in the Premier League table.
As such, there have been many thrilled Southampton fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter to react to a recent report from The Daily Echo, which suggests that defender Cedric Soares is set to leave the club this month to join Italian giants Inter Milan.
The Portugal international made the move to the South Coast outfit back in the summer of 2015 as the Saints sought to replace Liverpool-bound Nathaniel Clyne at right back, with Cedric doing a decent enough job of filling the void left by the Englishman in his first few seasons at St Mary’s.
However, the Euro 2016 winner has struggled somewhat in recent times to maintain his high-level of consistency down the right-hand-side, with the arrival of Hasenhuttl last month seeing the Portuguese fall down the right back pecking order.
And a recent report from The Daily Echo suggests that the 27-year-old will secure a loan move to Inter with the chance of making that permanent come the summer, but the report also goes on to suggest that a replacement for Cedric is unlikely this month.
And that in particular has prompted plenty of unconvinced Southampton fans to take to Twitter to question Hasenhuttl’s decision to let the defender go, as doing so would leave the Saints short in the right back department…
Brave move not getting anyone in

Great so we’re losing a right back and not getting anyone in. Cheers sons crying

Considering Cedric was needed a couple of times to fill in for injuries shows how much of a risk letting him go without replacement is.
With Targett going off injured last game and Bertrand yet to play we could seriously struggle in the fullback department. #SaintsFC

Not ideal leaving us short and without the financial benefit…was hoping that if it was a loan it would be a obligatory buy in the summer. Gamble if we decide not to bring in Maehle this month…

We can get money for Cedric though. Portugal International, he’s not exactly hoedt is he. Either sell or keep till the summer. A loan is pointless. At this rate we’ll have more loanees than chelski

Sell don’t loan we need the funds

That’s slightly more short sighted, Valery is not ready to be first choice right back and another loan certainly doesn’t add to the transfer pot. Beginning to think this is perhaps not a good idea #saintsfc
