Southampton: Fans react to Ryan Bertrand’s display against West Ham

Southampton lost 3-1 away to West Ham at the weekend, and some fans were displeased at the team’s performance.
The result pulls the Saints back into the relegation battle as they dropped to 13th and only 7 points away from Bournemouth in 18th. Former captain Ryan Bertrand’s performance was heavily criticised as the left-back struggled to contain Jarrod Bowen and Michael Antonio, with one supporter labelling his display as ’embarrassing’.
Bertrand, who moved to Southampton from Chelsea in 2014 after he won the Champions League (per Transfermarkt), was given the 3rd lowest rating for Southampton by Sofascore, (6.3). The player lost his captaincy to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg when he was injured, with Ralph Hasenhuttl now favouring the centre-midfielder.
Throughout the game, Bertrand lost possession 21 times (Sofascore), something which he can not afford to repeat as Southampton’s next two games are crucial. They play Newcastle United at home in their next fixture before a tricky away game against Norwich City who recently beat Leicester 1-0 at Carrow Road. Hasenhuttl will want everyone to be performing at the highest level, if they win their next two games, they could start to look at the teams above them rather than below.
Some fans went to Twitter to speak about the defender’s performance:
Was Bertrand playing today?….asking for a friend #saintsfc
