Southampton fans have been given a boost ahead of this Saturday’s visit of Liverpool, with the club’s official website claiming that Ralph Hasenhuttl has no injury concerns heading into their clash against the Reds.
Saints kicked-off their Premier League campaign with a disastrous performance against Burnley last weekend, losing 3-0 to the Clarets thanks mainly to some incredibly poor defending from their back-three.
The challenge they face this weekend in the form of reigning Champions League champions Liverpool will certainly be even greater, however, with bookmakers making the hosts firm underdogs.
Summer signing Kevin Danso could well make his debut against Jurgen Klopp’s men after Jannik Vestergaard, Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek were so easily undone at Turf Moor.
Hasenhuttl is keen to move on from last weekend’s result, though, and said that his team had been training hard this week in preparation for the Liverpool game. Indeed, according to the Guardian, the former RB Leipzig boss has cancelled any days off since their opening day defeat and held individual meetings with some of the players.
“We tried to put push the [Burnley] game away at the beginning of the week, cancelled the day off, tried to analyse and work in our minds that from Tuesday on we can focus on the new game,” said the Austrian.
The 52-year-old added: “So far we have not (got any injury problems). We have worked very hard in the last two days. Today we had a lighter session, they were a little bit tired today because we have worked hard but no injuries so far.”
Southampton desperately need to put in a better performance than last weekend against Liverpool.
One thing that could work in their favour, however, is the fact that the Reds could be fatigued having travelled to Istanbul and back this week for their UEFA Super Cup final clash against Chelsea and the fact back-up ‘keeper Adrian is struggling with an injury.
