Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl faces a tough call picking who starts between the sticks for this weekend’s visit of Everton.
The match is already being labelled as a six-pointer due to how close both sides are in the league at the moment, with the hosts desperately needing a positive result to close the gap between themselves and the Toffees and pull away from the relegation zone.
Can Moussa Djenepo rescue Southampton's season?
A defeat, on the other hand, would be catastrophic as it would give Everton the perfect opportunity to increase the gap between themselves and the Saints to six points.
Angus Gunn has featured for Southampton for the majority of the season, but it is Alex McCarthy who has lined-up in goal for the Hampshire club’s last two outings against Manchester City in both the league and EFL Cup last week.
McCarthy was first-choice shot-stopper for the majority of last season, making 25 league appearances, and Saints fans are keen to see him regain that position ahead of Angus Gunn, who has played the fifth-most top-flight minutes of anyone in the squad this campaign.

Macca for me – experience over youth in a huge game that we need to win

McCarthy for me. A more experienced calm goalie needed considering our dreadful home record #saintsfc
