Southampton look an improved side under Mark Hughes and especially with them scoring more goals, they have a much better chance at having a good campaign.
The Englishman has done what’s been required of him during his time at St Mary’s as firstly he kept them up last season after they were flirting with relegation for the majority of the campaign and has now had a full pre-season to embed his tactics and beliefs into the players.
Southampton only a few seasons ago were in the top eight consistently but after one dreadful season, those good days seem a long way away now. Their performances on the pitch so far this season have been adequate but they seem to be missing a player with an abundance of energy in midfield – someone like Amadou Haidara.
Haidara, (who is valued at £13.5 million on Transfermarkt) performed exceptionally well to get himself on the radar of many big teams last season and it’s no wonder as to why. The central-midfielder played 55 games throughout the season and during that scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists, proving that not only does he have a terrific engine to keep going in matches but also even from midfield, he can have a telling influence in-front of goal.
RB Salzburg can count themselves lucky to have a player like Haidara for now but the Mali international is destined for bigger and better things without a doubt.
Southampton have previously done business with the Austrian club when signing Sadio Mane and look how that’s turned out. The Saints have a history of good recruitment and the signing of Amadou Haidara will also be a positive move to make this winter.
