Southampton will not be feeling confident about their chances of survival in the Premier League, having managed just one victory all season long.
It’s been a terrible campaign in which fans wish they could just press a reset button and start over completely.
Southampton have the foundations to get back into the top ten of the Premier League but first, they have to worry about escaping the relegation danger they find themselves in.
Defensively Southampton have been laughable at times so recruiting another centre-back would be considered a smart decision.
Someone who not only makes a great centre-back but also a demanding leader is Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and he would drill that back-line into place.
Cahill, who is valued at £9 million on Transfermarkt, is tipped to move away from Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens next month and Southampton should be at the front of the cue.
The 32-year-old has a measly 21 minutes of Premier League football to his name this season, so it’s easy to see why he is likely to leave Chelsea.
Southampton would be very grateful recipients of such an experienced defender, who would slot into their defence nicely in a bid to stop the truck-load of goals they’re conceding.
Cahill is desperate to show Chelsea and the rest of the league what he is still capable of despite not getting any younger.
He will also be a vital voice to have in the changing rooms with Southampton in such a mess and his leadership skills could inspire the Saints to kick-start their season once again.
Would Cahill make a good signing for Southampton… Let us know!
