Southampton: Kemar Roofe would help Danny Ings keep the club up this season

Southampton fans will definitely be concerned following their dreadful start to the Premier League season.

The Saints missed a host of chances and were comfortably beaten by Chelsea at the weekend. The result leaves Southampton with just five points from their opening eight fixtures in the Premier League. The St. Marys faithful were hoping to avoid another relegation dogfight, but their early form suggests it will be another long season for Mark Hughes’ side.

While the Saints have struggled, Leeds United have made an excellent start to life under Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship. The Whites’ early season form earmarked them as potential promotion contenders even though their form has curtailed in recent weeks. One man, in particular, has shone during the Argentine’s time at the club.

Valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt, Leeds forward Kemar Roofe has been sensational in the Championship this season. The 25-year-old has four goals and two assists in his first six appearances before an injury halted his progress. Southampton should be monitoring his performances at Elland Road and look to sign him during the January transfer window.

Bringing Roofe to the club would lessen the goalscoring burden on the shoulders of Ings and add another dimension to their attack. His arrival would allow Hughes to field two strikers if necessary and inject some much-needed firepower to his forward line. If the Saints are to avoid the drop, they need to start scoring goals, and Roofe can be the man to fire them to safety.

A fantastic finisher with an excellent work rate, the Englishman would be an instant hit with Southampton fans.
