Monaco are reportedly interested in signing Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina, according to France Football via Sport Witness.
The French side have endured a poor start to their campaign – having lost their opening league fixture 3-0 to Metz – and are looking to bring in reinforcements to the midfield to avoid a repeat of their disastrous season last time out, where they narrowly avoided relegation.
France Football have revealed that Monaco’s main transfer target is former player Tiemoue Bakayoko, though. The Chelsea midfielder appears to have no future in west London after a forgetful period in England which saw him notch just three goals for the Blues, and could return to his former stomping ground.
Despite completing the second-most dribbles in the Saints squad last season and finishing in the same position in terms of pass completion, the 25-year-old does not even a place in the club’s training ground dressing room according to the Daily Echo.
Lemina certainly needs to engineer a move away from Southampton in the forthcoming weeks, or he’ll face the prospect of spending the entire 2019/20 campaign playing for Saints’ U23s.
While the above stats do show some of the quality he brings to the squad, it seems he has little chance of featuring under the former RB Leipzig boss.
