The Southampton fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the owners significantly back Mark Hughes this summer so a repeat of last season’s disaster will not be happening again any time soon.
The Saints narrowly escaped relegation but they were flirting with the drop ever since the start of the campaign. The board didn’t replace stars who departed the club, therefore leaving Southampton in a tricky situation.
Our punters are now hoping that all involved have learnt their lesson so that Southampton have a much better chance of success next season, and it would be wise for them to invest in a player like Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who is valued at £10.8 million on Transfer Markt.
The Iranian forward is 24-years-old and currently plays out in Holland with AZ Alkmaar, performing amazingly well for the side, so much so that he bagged 21 goals and managed 12 assists in the Eredivisie last season.
Southampton were goal-shy all last season and a player of the Iranian’s standard should be someone they deeply consider this summer. After all, transfers in and out are unknown, so Saints have to make sure they get quality players through the door, before allowing players to leave the club.
Whilst on show at the World Cup, Jahanbakhsh get more attention, which may lead teams like Southampton to consider a bid for him. Considering the brilliant goal record he achieved last season, it seems sensible that a goal-shy team like Southampton would target a free-scoring player, enduring brilliant times on the pitch right now.
