The Southampton fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club have open talks with one of their players over a new deal.
According to a report in The Mirror, the Premier League side have opened talks with Cedric Soares over a new contract with the club.
The Portuguese impressed many with the part he played in his country’s EURO 2016 win this summer, with the Saints eager to tie the full back down on a longer term deal in a bid to warn off potential suitors.
The 24-year old defender, who was linked with a move to Barcelona just last month, made 27 appearances for the South Coast outfit last season but found himself out of the side towards the end of the campaign.
Losing his place to Cuco Martina, Ronald Koeman’s departure has clearly had an impact on the defender’s standing at St. Mary’s Stadium, ahead of Claude Puel’s maiden campaign.
Saints fans, how impressed were you by Cedric at the European Championships? A guaranteed starter next term?
