More news coming from the bar here at the Football Transfer Tavern and this time it’s regarding everyone’s South Coast side: The Saints.
According to Reports from Spanish newspaper, Marca (via Sport Witness) Southampton are thought to be sterpping up their chase Malaga midfielder Recio.
After losing Victor Wanyama to Spurs earlier this summer, the Saints have been searching for a midfield replacement and The Boquerones midfielder could fit the bill.
Manager Claude Puel is going into his first season in England as Southampton manager and he will need a large, well-rounded squad to succeed.
The Saints have a domestic league campaign, cup competitions and a Europa League journey on the horizon and the versatile midfielder would be the perfect addition in terms of quality.
The 25-year-old had an extremely solid season at Malaga last season but despite his good domestic form, he is still yet to be capped at international level.
An earlier report at the end of last month also linked the Saints with a move for the midfielder, but nothing came of the talk in the English press.
Malaga themselves have now claimed a “major effort” is expected from a club to sign their midfielder, so undeterred, could Southampton be set to wrap up a move?
The Saints open their Premier League campaign against Watford next weekend.
