Southampton: Ryan Bertrand drops hint on future

Many Southampton fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by The Athletic’s Saints reporter Dan Sheldon, which shared that Ryan Bertrand, whose current Southampton contract is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, has hinted that he wants to end his career at Southampton.
In his tweet, Sheldon quoted the £9.45m-rated man as saying: “I want to stay. I have still got plenty of years left in me – and to go beyond that and possibly work for the club even after football. I don’t think it’s too far away. It’s in the club’s hands, to be honest.”
It would seem as though the journalist feels that the 31-year-old former England international’s revelation that he’s open to possibly assuming a role at Southampton beyond the end of his playing career suggests that he’d like to remain at St. Mary’s for the remainder of said playing career and after he shared this claim on Twitter, it got many Southampton fans talking.
So, how did these Southampton fans react to Sheldon’s post sharing Bertrand’s comments?
A lot of the Saints fans that replied to Sheldon’s tweet were full of praise for Bertrand, with some indicating that they’d like to see their club offer the 31-year-old a new deal.
A great asset to the squad.

Hints?! I’d say he’s been pretty clear about what he wants! I for one am delighted! Massively underated in my opinion! 😇

fantastic news – he’s a switched on bloke who is no doubt a great influence on the younger lads

Give the man a fair contract to end his career here. A true ambassador, committed player, and next-level marketer. I see him starting for 2-3 more seasons, then moving to a Kelvin Davis type role to finish out.

Isn’t this code for ‘I want x more years on the contract and I’m not getting them’?

He’s been incredibly consistent and never once tried to jump ship when we began to struggle, you can tell he enjoys playing the club and the club need to offer him a deal good enough to keep him as he’s a good role model for the youngsters
