Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping their side can add firepower to help them with their goal scoring problems this season, which has seen them drop down into the bottom three of the Premier League.
Mark Hughes side, which he has inherited from Mauricio Pellegrino, has hit the back of the net just 29 times and according to reports, the club has identified the attacker they would like to lead their line.
According to Sky Sports, the Saints are rumoured to be interested in bringing Barcelona misfit Paco Alacer, with the 24-year-old being monitored by the Premier League’s Spanish scouting network. The former Valencia man has found it difficult to break into the first-team since arriving at the Camp Nou but has still scored 24 goals in two season.
Southampton are expected to go up against the likes of Villarreal and Celta de Vigo for the player’s signature, however, their hopes on landing him will largely depend on the league they find themselves in next year.
Southampton fans in the Tavern will be excited with the news that they are chasing a name like Alcacer, however, the locals will be concerned that the club could be facing the real possibility of being in the Championship, which would make a move have no chance of materialising.
