Southampton fans are delighted with the news they’ve been greeted with at the Transfer Tavern this morning, with confirmation a player has signed a new deal.
Claude Puel’s side confirmed yesterday that Oriol Romeu has penned a new deal at St Mary’s, with the former Barcelona and Chelsea man securing his future to the Saints for the next four-and-a-half years.
Signed in 2015 from the Blues, Romeu has missed just one match across all competitions this season for Southampton and his appearance tally already stands at 30 for the season, with Romeu showing no signs of slowing.
The news comes on the eve of Southampton’s crucial League Cup semi-final second-leg against Liverpool, where the Saints lead 1-0, and Romeu stated his delight upon signing a new deal.
“I couldn’t be happier to have this new contract with the club. Ever since I came here I have felt very good. Everything has been positive for me. I have developed myself and been getting better every day. Hopefully there will be more to come.”
Our landlord believes this is a brilliant move from Southampton, as he ranks Romeu as one of their most important players this season, alongside Virgil Van Dijk.
The Saints fans here in the Tavern are very happy to see the midfielder seal a new deal, with them all thinking the player is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League!
